EU Lawmaker: Open to adjust Irish border backstop to win UK's approval in Brexit negotiations - Reuters
In an interview with Reuters, Danuta Hubner, chair of the European Parliament's constitutional affairs committee, stated that they were open to introduce some changes to the backstop solution so that it would be politically acceptable for the United Kingdom.
"It has definitely never been the intention of the EU to threaten the territorial integrity of the UK with the backstop," Hubner said and added: "A political reassurance of that sort could compliment the backstop from our side. Solving the Irish issue is a condition for us to end the negotiations positively."
